Application of Social Media

There are myriads of social media tools out there. Don't be overwhelmed and also, don't jump on every tool. Evaluate them carefully to see what are your or your organizatation's needs and understand/know why you need to be there. Keep in mind that for your agenda to succeed, you need to make yourself visible to others (promote your twitter account, blog address, etc.), dedicate time to making to participate and build your community/network and regularly engage with them.

Measuring the Impact of Social Media

Like in any project, there comes a point where you need start looking at measuring the impact of the initiative. The area of measuring impact of social media is relatively new although there are few suggestions on how to start the monitoring. You can measure/do the following:
  • Amount of friends, fans or followers a social media account has (for example on Facebook, Twitter)
  • Using trackable URL’s when posting information/links to these social media accounts
  • Amount of discussions generated within social media account pages
  • Amount of video views/comments
  • Amount of photo views/comments
  • Amount of comments on profile page
  • Amount of retweets a tweet gets
  • Amount of downloads or installs an application or attachment has
  • Amount of questions asked or answered on a site
  • Size of your network
  • Amount of fans your page has
